Hematite Drop Earrings with Sun and Moon Symbols

$22.42

These earrings are inspired by my never ending obsession with ancient, magical and folk symbols. In this case the earrings feature three powerful symbols; the evil eye, moon and sun.

I paired these symbols with the gemstone hematite, a metallic grey coloured natural mineral, an ore of iron. Metaphysically this stone is associated with a strong grounding effect, with the stone said to bestow its wearer with balance of the mind, body, and soul.

In these earrings the hematite is in the form of a 8mm spherical hematite bead. I wanted to stick to the mixed metal shades of silver, so chose a metal bead and charms and these both feature the symbolic emblems mentioned above.

The evil eye is featured on the small cylindrical disc at the top or the earrings. With a history dating back to ancient civilisations, evil eye charms have traditionally been adopted by many cultures as a symbol of protection against harm, and are commonly worn as jewellery.

The sun and moon symbols feature on the silver oval drop charm, which is 1.5cm long by 0.9cm wide at the largest point.

Symbolically the sun and moon shown together, either side by side or in a yin and yang figure, represent the balance between opposite forces. The Sun symbolises masculine energy and the Moon symbolizes feminine energy.

The total drop length of these earrings is 3.8cm and they are hung on silver plated ear wires (sized 1cm).

I've included a picture of my snowflake obsidian earring collection, which has a similar aesthetic to this pair. There is also a similar bracelet which further explores the symbols of fire, earth, water and air.

Frequently Asked Questions

Custom and personalised orders

I offer many custom options, particularly in my ceramic pendant range. All the information is included in the listing details, but feel free to contact me with additional info or questions. I will always speak with you first, before making a custom order, to clarify your design and before sending to check you are happy with the outcome. I ask 10 days from confirmation of order in which to make the piece. Shipping times are additional to this 10 days.

I'm always happy to work with you to create something special and unique.

Care instructions

A lot of the components are natural materials so they can be fragile or prone to attack by water or rough handling. To protect your jewellery, please handle it carefully and remove it before bathing/showering, swimming and snoozing. It is also a good idea to avoid getting perfume, make-up or creams on jewellery.

Gift wrapping and packaging

I carefully pack all items in a padded envelope (preferably recycled envelopes where possible).

I have a 'gift wrap' option and am happy to include gift messages. See my shop photos for examples of packaging featuring lino printed packaging, designed and hand printed by me!

I send UK parcels Royal Mail second class as standard with proof of posting obtained. I also offer expedited first class.

I use international track and trace with signature for USA parcels.

Please check for any customs or import charges in your country, which are the buyer’s responsibility

What metal do you use?

Ear wires:
These are most often silver plated or aluminium. I also use sterling silver, stainless steel (hypo-allergenic) and the listing info has specific information for each item. I am happy to alter ear wire type if possible, just ask. This also includes the clip-on style.

Wire & findings (jump rings, connectors etc.):
Most of the wire I use is either copper, aluminium or iron and plated with copper, silver or black colour plating. The thickness I most often use is 0.4mm.

For more specific information about the components in a particular item, please ask.

What gemstones do you use & can you make items in specific birthstones?

Many and yes!

I love to use semi-precious gemstones like agate, quartz, lapis lazuli (and many many more). I find the reputed mystical and healing properties of these stones interesting (and know many people do) so will include a few lines about these for the appropriate items.

I think there's something special about using organic materials and wearing treasures from nature against one’s skin. I find it a joy to work with them and hope this positive energy will transfer to their new owners.

See my 'birthstone jewellery' and 'healing jewellery' section in the shop to find these items.

What are the clay/ceramic components?

Clay components
These are made using either stoneware fired and glazed clay (hardy but can be fragile if dropped) or air-dry clay. I really like working with the latter as there is limitless potential to create unique interesting components and finishes without needing to kiln fire. However it is a bit of a unknown quantity in that I’ve only recently started working with it and have no personal experience of how it behaves over time. The manufacturer information states this is very durable, particularly when varnished and is PVC free, containing only vegetable binders. I varnish these with a double coating but would still recommend taking special care with these components, particularly avoiding rough handling, water or intense heat/cold.

What do you mean when you say 'recycled' materials?

I use beads in a variety of sizes, colours, finishes and origins. I’ll be as specific as possible in the listings about materials. I do enjoy using recycled materials as much as possible mainly due the surprise of coming across unusual items of mysterious origins (!) and I’ll pick them up at places like charity shops, car boot sales etc. or even re-purpose my old jewellery. I will always replace ear wires and fastenings though for hygiene reasons.

Do you post internationally and when will my item arrive?

Yes I'm perfectly happy to do this and parcels are sent with Royal Mail. I will always dispatch orders within 2 working days (except custom orders). I use Royal Mail second class in the UK and Royal Mail International Tracked & Signed.

Shipping estimates:

From Royal Mail website:-
